20/10/2026 Birmingham Live: DVLA business plan lists number plates as potential area for change

James Rodger at Birmingham Live reports that in DVLA's business plan for 2026-2027, and it includes considering changes around number plate supply.

In the article, DVLA says:

"We will consider changes to improve and enhance the number plate supply regime to reinforce DVLA’s role in tackling the use of illegal number plates through improved intelligence sharing, stronger checks for number plate suppliers, potential changes to fees and joint working with police and Trading Standards.

"Throughout all of this, we will maintain the highest standards of security, privacy and transparency, ensuring that public trust in how we use data is earned and protected."
